Vibrational Drum Tests (2015)

These tests are to be conducted by one (1) operator using only materials found within the band practice room. Speakers are removed from amplifiers and placed on floor facing up. Drums, percussion and drum hardware are placed on ( or suspended above) speaker cones selectively, and in various combinations. Feedback loops created through a chain of effects pedals (Harmonist, Super Shifter and Pitchshifter) are fed through the speakers. The only modulation is through the actions of the operator, who controls volume, effects level and function. Sequences and repeated figures manifest by adjusting the pedal knobs and switching pedals on and off. The “edition of infinity” creates the illusion of a percussive element, as well as less redundant tonal expression throughout the test. The test is conducted for approximately 20 minutes. The operator will only have this allotted time to run as many tests as possible.
